Hi! Chastity,
Nice to meet you, even this virtual way. I know very few on Jack Starnes, except he was an astute businessman. I don’t know his real activity before one day in 1953, his path crossed Harold « Pappy » Daily, who was the distributor of Four Star records in Houston. Hence both of them found there was room enough to develop a record label specialized in honky-tonk music, Star(nes)Day(ly), Starday was born. First recording sessions were held in Starnes’ living room, before they used Gold Star studios in Houston. Apparently, the dealership between the two men went to a disagreement circa 1954-1955, so they parted ways. All of this is taken from my researches or from Nathan D. Gibson’s book « Starday – The House That Music Built », issued 2010. I am on move, so don’t have the book available (already stored) and cannot give you the publishing house. But I think this book is easily available: try amazon.com.
Hope all this helps! Do you have any picture of your grand-grand-father? For Heaven’s sake, I can’t remember having once seen one at least!
Have a blessed day. Thanks for the visit. Boppinest regards, Xavier (France) My address: xavier.maire@free.fr
